apa itu geologi?

Geology is the science and study of the physical matter that constitutes the Earth. The field of geology encompasses the study of the composition, structure, properties, and history of the planet's physical material, and the processes by which it is formed, moved, and changed.

The field is a major academic discipline, and is commercially important for mineral and hydrocarbon extraction, as well as for predicting and understanding earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. It is also an important foundation for many other science and engineering disciplines, including evolutionary biology, paleoclimatology and geotechnical engineering.

The word geology was first used by Jean-André Deluc in 1778 and introduced as a fixed term by Horace-Bénédict de Saussure in 1779. The word is derived from the Greek γῆ, gê, meaning earth "earth" and λόγος, logos, meaning "speech".

Norwegian Journal of Geology – online
The Norwegian Journal of Geology has now become an international journal with high-quality papers from all geoscientific disciplines. However, scientific papers are of limited value unless they are available to all interested readers. Our ambition is therefore to ensure the widest possible distribution of our journal.
In making the journal digitally available, we make NJG easier to access and handle for our society members and subscribers. By improved availability we also hope to increase the number of users of our journal.
The criteria for publishing in NJG and the scientific quality control of the manuscripts submitted to the journal remain as it is today. We shall continue to publish four issues per year, and expect the number of pages (manuscripts) in each volume to be more or less the same as today.

Hard copies - subscribing or ordering single issues?
Ordinary subscription for hard copies are still available for institutions and members. We have a special offer for members of the Geological Society of Norway interested in subscribing to and receiving 4 issues pr. year. Starting in 2006 it will also be possible to order single issues of hard copies. You can find more information
